So I just found out about the Collatz conjecture. To do it, you pick a number. If it’s even, divide it by 2 and if it’s odd, multiply it by 3 and add 1. Then repeat the steps with whatever result you get and the idea is that whatever number you start with, you end up with 1 at the end. It hasn’t been proven yet. Should probably say that. But I’m kind of amazed at it. The picture is supposed to be like…the orbit of the first 1000 numbers, not that I’m going to claim I know what they mean by “orbit” in that context. But for some reason, whenever I see this picture, I think of a lady falling off a building with her dress on fire. I found out about this thing when I was snooping around in the xkcd store.
